Get more tabs on Google personalized homepage

I wrote a few posts on Google personalized homepage. I love the tabs, but need more tabs than the default. Every time I want to add new tabs, I have to Google for it. So, for my own sake, I’ll write a short note on how to add new tabs to Googles personalized homepage : http://www.google.com/ig.

When you login to your own page at Google’s, and need more tabs than possible, all you have to do, is write the following in the adressbar, and vupti, you’ll be asked to name your new tab. So simple

Also…. the added a “new stuff” block for your personalized news. Bring that back too google. What’s with you, don’t show it and then remove it. What do you think we are, kids ?

Google personlized page with Tabs, now you see them now you dont

WOW, I was soo happy, I wen’t to my personalized google homepage, and all the sudden it had tabs ! Great, I put my feeds in tabs, organized most of them, but when I wen’t back, it was all gone.

Google’s experimenting with “tabbed browsing”, at least it’s tabs on their homepage, nice nice. Bring them back to me please google.

Netvibes.com has them, please Google get up in speed with your page too.

Make sure you use Google homepage in english, or you won’t see the new TABS

Man, first time Adsense is offline for me. Not that I make much money on my ads on my site,,,, but I do check my account often – hoping to win the lottery Today it was offline with the following message:

Google job – job at Google ?

If you are looking for at job at Google, all you have to do is search.

Google can have so much fun with their index. They can present whatever they want, make special searches return special results etc. I often wonder what Easter eggs they have on Google.com, or if they have clowns employed to make fun on the site.

So, instead of searching for the job section on Google.com, search for the word “google careers” directly in the searchfield (source: Battelle)

It doesn’t work on your local language-Google however. So make sure you use the international Google.com (http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en)

Google Search History – Your personalized search statistics

When you start using Googles features as much as I am, you start discovering the benefits across all the Google tools.

Search History
One nice feature is the ability to review and search what you have been searching for on Google. When logged in, Google will save your searchresults and can show them to you over time.

Google is working on personalized searches, as well as geographical searches. Your searchpatterns help to present relevant searches in your SERP (search engine result page). You may dislike and have second opinions on the storing/monitoring of your search, but they do monitor and use that information. Soon the issue of privacy and democracy will rise in importance.

Google bookmarks
If you have a personalized Google-page (consider it if you don’t). When you add bookmarks, you can have those bookmarks shown in a dedicated page http://www.google.com/bookmarks/. No obvious links are shown to the Trends, showing your statistics, but you can access them here: http://www.google.com/bookmarks/trends?.

I have my personalized Google homepage www.google.com/ig, my Gmail www.gmail.com, Google analytics Gogle sitemap, Google AdSense, Google groups and some more, and enjoy most of them. Occasionally I tend to bug Google with support-issues and ideas for new features. Wow they must get flooded by users like me

New Google AdSense layouts – interactive banners

I experiment a bit with Google AdSense. Not that it pays in any way at all, but it’s much fun to see what comes up, what Google think my pages are about.

Uninspiring Google ads
However, the Google ads are pretty uninspiring. Perhaps they could make their Sample-section a bit more interesting, perhaps even interactive, i.e. a preview tool from the AdSense pages directly or if we’d really get creative, a recommended implementations tool, that would look at your site and suggest the best bannerplacements from a simple Google query and analysis on the relevant page.

Interactive AdSense banners
How about making Google banners interactive, allow flashbanners, animated banners, banners with sounds, games etc. As I’ve referred to so many times, Google is simplicity made easy. It may work, but I am sure Google could make interactive and more creative banners work in a controlled framework.

I can make the banners look more flashy myself, by wrapping the Google scripts in tables and animating those tables. But, I think that Google should get ahead here, and develop new AdSense banners soon.
