Google job – job at Google ?

March 29th, 2006 -

If you are looking for at job at Google, all you have to do is search.

Google can have so much fun with their index. They can present whatever they want, make special searches return special results etc. I often wonder what Easter eggs they have on Google.com, or if they have clowns employed to make fun on the site.

Google Career Job

So, instead of searching for the job section on Google.com, search for the word “google careers” directly in the searchfield (source: Battelle)

It doesn’t work on your local language-Google however. So make sure you use the international Google.com (http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en)

Google Search History – Your personalized search statistics

February 6th, 2006 -

When you start using Googles features as much as I am, you start discovering the benefits across all the Google tools.

Google Search History Calendar View
Search History
One nice feature is the ability to review and search what you have been searching for on Google. When logged in, Google will save your searchresults and can show them to you over time.

Google is working on personalized searches, as well as geographical searches. Your searchpatterns help to present relevant searches in your SERP (search engine result page). You may dislike and have second opinions on the storing/monitoring of your search, but they do monitor and use that information. Soon the issue of privacy and democracy will rise in importance.

Google bookmarks
If you have a personalized Google-page (consider it if you don’t). When you add bookmarks, you can have those bookmarks shown in a dedicated page http://www.google.com/bookmarks/. No obvious links are shown to the Trends, showing your statistics, but you can access them here: http://www.google.com/bookmarks/trends?.

Google Search History
Have a look at my stats here: Google Search History

The calendar gives you the option of selecting and viewing searches on specific dates:
Google Search History Calendar View

You can view:

  • Top searches, Top sites, Top clicks
  • Monthly search activity
  • Daily search activity
  • Hourly search activity
  • New queries similar to your searches

I have my personalized Google homepage www.google.com/ig, my Gmail www.gmail.com, Google analytics Gogle sitemap, Google AdSense, Google groups and some more, and enjoy most of them. Occasionally I tend to bug Google with support-issues and ideas for new features. Wow they must get flooded by users like me :)

Search blogs with Google Blog Search

February 6th, 2006 -

Google is blogging, and … is also indexing blogs – Blog search. Google does an good job, others are still ahead. Never mind who is ahead, Google is probably taking that gold medal too, and advancing to the number one position soon.

Simplicity rules once again, and this time even more simpel than ever before. Google frontpages are living by the rule that the most trafficking services reach the frontpage, and no more that seven is shown. The Blog search has only one service, the ability to search blogs :) Oh yea, and an advances search options. My favourite option here is the option to search posts in date ranges. I would love to have that option on the ordinary websearch ! That’s a wish Google, if you read this post :)

Watch NBA video on Google Video

January 30th, 2006 -

Sometimes the Google guys must be having so much fun. With a website like google, most things are possible. All that content, all those features, and surely all that time they spend at work, must end up in some funny features.

I’m sure they made this little feature some day late at work, when they needed a break – or heard from their friend that had been at home watching the games in tv.

They’ve made a special page for Google video, “Watch your favorite NBA games“.

Note the little addiction in the searchfield. More specific options are surely available on Google Video – reveiled over time.

Officially, the “Team:Name_your_NBA_team” search, is no where to see.

Search Google Video by title

“Title:”
“title:Subject” example: “title:adwords

“Team:”
“team:Los_Angeles_Lakers” example: “team:Los_Angeles_Lakers

See if you can make the team-feature work on other teams than NBA, and post em here :)
